Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 6, 2026
1. Overview
LifeDash is a desktop productivity application. Your privacy is fundamental to how we build the product. The desktop app stores all data locally on your machine — we do not operate servers that collect, process, or store your personal information.
This policy covers both the LifeDash desktop application and the LifeDash website (lifedash.app), which have different data practices.
2. Desktop Application — Local Data
Everything you create in LifeDash stays on your device:
- Database: All data (projects, tasks, notes, settings) is stored in a local PGlite (embedded PostgreSQL) database on your machine.
- Meeting recordings & transcripts: Audio is processed locally using Whisper (on-device speech-to-text). Recordings and transcripts never leave your computer.
- Sensitive credentials: API keys and tokens are stored using your operating system's secure credential storage (safeStorage on Electron), encrypted at rest.
- No telemetry: The desktop app does not send analytics, crash reports, or usage data to our servers or any third party.
We have no ability to access, view, or recover your local data. You are solely responsible for backing up your data.
3. Third-Party AI Providers
LifeDash integrates with third-party AI services (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others) using your own API keys. When you use AI features:
- Data is sent directly from your machine to the AI provider's API.
- No data passes through LifeDash servers — the connection is between your device and the provider.
- What data is sent depends on which AI feature you use (e.g., meeting transcript for summarization, note content for brainstorming).
- Each provider has their own privacy policy and data retention practices. We encourage you to review them.
You can use LifeDash entirely without AI features. AI integration is optional and opt-in.
4. Website Data Collection
The LifeDash website (lifedash.app) collects limited data:
Email Address
If you sign up for updates or contact us for support, your email address may be collected. We use your email solely for:
- Responding to support requests.
- Product updates and announcements (you can unsubscribe at any time).
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on the website to understand how visitors find and use the site. GA4 collects:
- Page views and navigation patterns.
- Referral sources (how you found the site).
- General device and browser information.
- Approximate geographic location (country/region level).
GA4 does not collect personally identifiable information. You can opt out by using a browser ad-blocker or the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Cookies
The LifeDash website uses the following cookies:
- _ga — Google Analytics identifier, used to distinguish users. Expires after 2 years.
- _ga_<ID> — Google Analytics session tracking. Expires after 2 years.
The desktop application does not use cookies.
6. Third-Party Services
The following third-party services may process data in connection with LifeDash:
- Google Analytics 4 — Website analytics (website only). Privacy Policy.
- Vercel — Website hosting. May process IP addresses and request metadata. Privacy Policy.
- GitHub — Software distribution (desktop app downloads). Privacy Policy.
7. Data Retention
- Desktop app data: Stored locally until you delete it. Uninstalling the app removes application files; your data directory may persist unless manually removed.
- Email addresses: Retained only for as long as needed to provide support or deliver updates, or until you request deletion.
- Analytics data: Google Analytics retains data for 14 months by default.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (including under GDPR and similar regulations), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Delete your personal data (request via email).
- Opt out of analytics tracking (via browser settings or ad-blocker).
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.
- Data portability — your desktop app data is already on your machine in standard formats.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@lifedash.app.
9. Children's Privacy
LifeDash is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
10. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we handle:
- The website is served over HTTPS.
- No payment data is collected — LifeDash is free and open source.
- The desktop app stores sensitive credentials using OS-level encryption (safeStorage).
No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the website. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
